The shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar — Sehwan, Pakistan
At Sehwan Sharif, the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar is one of the major Sufi mausoleums in Pakistan, dedicated to the saint Lal Shahbaz Qalandar (Usman Marwandi, 13th century). The site functions as a place of pilgrimage throughout the year, attracting large numbers of visitors from different regions.
The annual urs, marking the commemoration of the saint’s death, gathers hundreds of thousands to over a million pilgrims. These gatherings are structured around collective devotional practices, including recitation and ritual activities taking place within and around the shrine.
During these events, dervishes participate in ritual dances and zikr, which accompany and structure the rhythm of the gathering.
